Fanad, County Donegal, Ireland
Portsalon Golf Club, perhaps because of its remoteness is still a relatively unknown course but is all the better for that, the fairways not too crowded and deserving of the title ‘hidden gem’. Located on Fanad Peninsula beyond the Knockalla mountains, among sand dunes in a seaside location that some have compared to Pebble Beach. The fairways are narrow, with streams coming into play on many holes, e.g. 18th where the approach to the green has to carry a stream and like all the greens, it is well protected. The course is challenging with a variety of holes that overall provide a very satisfying days golf.
